This website is for you if:
Our aim is to provide information, ideas, questions and encouragement, which we hope you will find relevant to the type of journeys you make, at the point in life you are at. We are also here as a platform for you to get in touch with other car-free living people. We recognise that 'one size fits all' travel advice is not very useful therefore we cover different types of journeys for different age groups and life-stages from the getting started stage to more detailed advice in the article bank. We also want to explore how healthy, safe, affordable and enjoyable different travel options are as well as noting any dangers. As this website was set up with the support of Groundwork London, our main aim is to help Londoners. However we do hope some of the principles will be applicable from Liverpool to Lisbon, from Los Angelis to Lagos. There is plenty of detailed travel mode and journey specific advice available from bodies like Transport for London, London Cycling Campaign, Cycle Touring Club, and the Campaign for Better Transport. We will refer you to such information when it is useful but our focus is on you and all the decisions you make, short-term and long-term, helping you enjoy freedom from car dependency. More detailed information on the rationale of living car-free is available in our article bank. We would also recommend that people consider joining Carfree UK, http://www.carfree.org.uk/ Carfree UK aims • To research and promote carfree communities and to work with politicians, developers, campaign groups and potential residents to see their growth in the UK's cities. • To promote carfree living and provide a forum for people who live without a car • To support the creation of local carfree groups • To campaign for public bodies to make life easier for people without cars • And the progressive removal of traffic from cities and neighbourhoods. In the Spring of 2010 the organisation Carfree UK set up a facebook site: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=108283525878513 with the aim of both promoting the interests of people who live carfree and and promoting carfree neighbourhoods. We encourage people to join this group on facebook. |
